On the evening of 16 April 2020, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick was photographed leading a crowded ‘Clap for Carers’ event on Westminster Bridge. That large public gathering in the centre of London clearly ignored the social distancing rules laid down by government. Who organised this event and what kind of message does this kind of behaviour send out to Londoners?

Your Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development wrote to me on 20 April 2020, in response to a letter from me to both of you asking about ways to bring unoccupied homes into use. I have been working with small businesses groups supporting each other in this difficult time. Guardians of the Arches and the East End Trades Guild have suggested establishing a London weighting for business support thresholds which reflects the capital’s higher rateable values.
