Cycleway 9 (1)

  • Reference: 2023/2927
  • Question by: Tony Devenish
  • Meeting date: 20 July 2023
On 9th July 2021 TfL published a press release headlined ‘New data highlights success of trial Cycleway in Chiswick’. The press release stated: “In the 12 months before TfL introduced new temporary cycle lanes to Chiswick High Road, there were eight collisions involving a cyclist, while in the six months since TfL introduced the temporary scheme, there have been two such collisions.” Given there were 11 collisions between cyclists and cars or vans in the first six months of Cycleway 9’s operation, why did TfL’s press release get the figures so wrong?
