At the London Assembly Plenary meeting on 7 September 2023 Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development, said that he would try to obtain information from the Home Office regarding the number of deaths per year of asylum seekers in contingency accommodation, and the causes. Could you confirm if this information is available, and if so, could you share it with me?

Government funding for obsolete homes

In your answer to question 2023/3054 you said: “My housing team has secured agreement from government that my Affordable Homes Programme 2021-26 will also be able to fund replacement homes.” Could you tell me how much funding within the Affordable Homes Programme 2021-26 has the Government agreed can be spent on replacing existing homes, and is this greater than ten per cent of the total grant allocation?

MPS VAWG misconduct suspension policies

Data provided in response to an FOI request by Refuge about police officers accused of VAWG-related misconduct found that just 12 per cent of officers and staff are being suspended from duties after being accused of crimes such as sexual assault and domestic violence. What are you doing to ensure all Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officers accused of VAWG-related misconduct are suspended pending investigation?

From 1 May 2022 to 1 May 2023, there were 1,124 cases of VAWG-related misconduct or gross misconduct across the 26 police forces in England and Wales that provided data in response to an FOI request by Refuge. Could you tell me, for each year since 2016: a) the number of officers in the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) accused of VAWG-related misconduct, b) how many of these officers were suspended pending investigation, and c) how many of these officers were reinstated after suspension? Could you provide this information in a table.

Commissioner praise for facial recognition technology

At an event hosted by Policy Exchange, the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) said: “live facial recognition is massively effective at picking out wanted offenders from crowds of people.” Out of 395,357 faces of Londoners scanned by Live Facial Recognition (LFR) technology since 2020 only 13 arrests have been made by the MPS, suggesting this is not ‘massively effective’. Have you checked with the Commissioner whether it would have been a more efficient use of police resources to make these arrests using conventional policing methods, and if not, will you?

This includes the findings from coroners’ inquests, including Prevention of Future Death reports, as well as recommendations made in public inquiries, Independent Office of Police Conduct investigations and official reviews.
