Transport Priorities (Supplementary) [7]

  • Question by: Murad Qureshi
  • Meeting date: 20 October 2004
Could you also emphasise elements of the programme which are not anti-car, and which actually improve traffic?

Transport Priorities (Supplementary) [6]

  • Question by: Roger Evans
  • Meeting date: 20 October 2004
Where does this leave your overall strategy? Is this not going to force people back out of public transport into cars? Are you going to put the congestion charge up to try and push them back again?

Transport Priorities (Supplementary) [5]

  • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE

): I was not sure if you had included the much-needed work on the Victoria Line. The state alone of Victoria tube station is a disgrace in this day and age, and also given the lack of escalators. In fact, do not stop at Victoria Station; go along the Victoria line. I know you have talked about Finsbury Park, but that line is an absolute disgrace.

So you put in for Government, but you did not actually cost the effects that it would have on Londoners.

Transport Priorities (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Roger Evans

Are you saying you expect your bus fare increase will not reduce the number of people travelling on the buses, because that is not what you were saying at your press conference.

What is the cost of operating this scheme?

EU rules (Supplementary) [8]

  • Question by: Graham Tope
  • Meeting date: 20 October 2004
I am sure you did not intend to mislead the Assembly just now, but I suggest to you that you have not just returned from Europe - you are still in Europe. Would you agree that one of the big problems, particularly in the United Kingdom, is that successive governments have added to EU rules and regulations? What are you doing to discourage your own Government from this form of additionality?

EU rules (Supplementary) [7]

  • Question by: Peter Hulme Cross
  • Meeting date: 20 October 2004
However you try to get around it, do you not agree that it is unnecessary interference by the EU in London's transport strategy and that there is nothing really that you or anyone can do to prevent it?
