Mayor's Report (Supplementary) [26]

  • Question by: Angie Bray
  • Meeting date: 20 February 2008
It occurs to me that it would be great obviously to extend it to the full 12 weeks particularly because of Easter coming halfway through the six week period. I think a lot of us, having looked at what has been produced, will fear that, as with so many of these consultations, the minds have already been made up and the consultation is just a kind of box-ticking exercise which might mean that after 12 weeks we are back where we are now. So what I want to know, Mr Livingstone, is, were you to be re-elected ' which we...

Can you perhaps, when you put together the challenge to the Post Office's decision, include that type of issue with it, because it just seems that that is overlooked completely.

Mayor's Report (Supplementary) [24]

  • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
  • Meeting date: 20 February 2008
You talked about Porsche. What is your view on Boris [Johnson] on Porsches? He said, 'It was cheering to be offered something as nakedly macho as the 911 Targa. My principal tribute is of course to the makers of the car. I salute their brilliance in creating an awesome engine capable of taking you in a very short order to a top speed of 177 miles per hour'. Do you think it is possible to be in awe of a nakedly macho Porsche 911 and be taken seriously as a candidate with green credentials?

Thank you for that. Again, one of the questions that has been raised with me by the elders in my constituency was that if there was any loss of revenue, would that impact on your promise to introduce the 24 hour fare concession for elders. I notice that many elders are in the hall today with us because they welcome that. Is there a threat that the reduction in revenue could threaten that promise that you have made?

Coming back to your judicial review challenge of the post office closures, you have not mentioned the distances they are expecting people to walk.

Mayor, just coming back to the potential legal challenge by Porsche motor cars, are there parallels to the challenge that you had with the original Congestion Charge scheme by the City of Westminster Council, in what they are proposing?

Mayor's Report (Supplementary) [20]

  • Question by: Mike Tuffrey
  • Meeting date: 20 February 2008
Can I claim yesterday's goody two shoes prize as I was out campaigning against the closure of my local post office yesterday morning in the company of Brian Paddick and Val Shawcross' good friend ' I am being ironic here ' Caroline Pidgeon [Liberal Democrat candidate for Lambeth and Southwark Assembly constituency]. Is it not bizarre that you find the need to update your report to us on the quality of London's tap water and you do not feel the need to update your report on the one thing that you have done since your report was published which got...

  • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE

Are you saying there will be no loss of revenue?

Mayor's Report (Supplementary) [18]

  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 20 February 2008
Just quickly back to congestion charging. You had a good analysis of Boris Johnson's position on Porsches but were you surprised that Brian Paddick was backing Porsche's legal action in the Guardian this morning, given the Liberal Democrats' enthusiasm previously for the introduction of a higher charge on 4x4s and other polluting vehicles?

Let us get on the record what it is the police are looking into and also let us get it on the record, if you would, what clause of the GLA employment codes of conduct and so forth required suspension, because there is no automatic need for suspension; that is another of your ruses that you have done.
