MOPAC/MPS

The 2026-27 Budget for the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime and the Metropolitan Police Service (MOPAC/MPS) Budget states that the 2025 Police and Crime Plan for London is resourced sufficiently. It notes in the submission that “the MPS budget approach has matured, meeting their statutory requirement to operate within a balanced budget and moving the organisation to a more sustainable financial footing”.

The key highlights in the 2026-27 budget are:

  • The 2026-27 MOPAC/MPS budget allows police officer numbers to be held stable throughout 2026-27 at 31,258.
  • The 2026-27 MPS Budget includes “non-workforce efficiencies” to be found of £20 million. This is after closing an estimated £150 million budget gap.
  • The budget gap increases to £52 million in 2027-28 and £54 million in 2028-29.
