The future of Community-Led Housing
The Mayor’s £38m London Community Housing Fund was launched in 2019, in “the hope this Fund will mean we can all benefit from a city for all Londoners, built by all Londoners”[1].
Now, more than five years on, the London Assembly Housing Committee will look at whether those hopes are being met.
The Committee will assess the role community-led housing plays in London’s housing sector, understand how and which communities have benefited to date, and ask how the Mayor’s funds have helped Community Land Trusts (CLTs) and Housing Cooperatives in London and what the net gain has been for the delivery of homes in the sector.
With an announcement yet to be made on the future of the Fund and other policies to support community-led housing, what are the challenges facing these initiatives, and how can we ensure that all Londoners can benefit from them?
The guests from 2-3.20pm are:
- Tom Chance – Chief Executive of the Community Land Trust Network
- Fatimatu Mohamed – Secretary, Gida Housing Cooperative
- Bernadette Marjoram – Board Member, Meridian Home Start
- Niall Mulholland - Executive Member of the London Federation of Housing Cooperatives
The guests from 3.30-5pm are:
- Tom Copley – Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development
- Dr Tom Moore – Senior Lecturer in Planning, University of Liverpool
- Natalie Daniels – Assistant Director of Housing, Greater London Authority
- Levent Kerimol – Project director at Community Led Housing London
- Paul Nicoll – Head of Societal Lending, Triodos Bank.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday 24 July from 2pm, in Committee Rooms 2 and 3 at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
