Northwood, Eastcote and Turnham Green stations on the way to step-free access – Bassam Mahfouz

Bassam Mahfouz, London Assembly Member for Ealing and Hillingdon, has welcomed progress on making Northwood, Eastcote and Turnham Green stations step-free.

TfL announced today (5th August) that they will be undertaking design work to make Arnos Grove and Eastcote stations step free, along with feasibility work at Turnham Green for step-free access at the three underground stations.

Long-time accessibility campaigner, Assembly Member Mahfouz has promised to continue campaigning for step-free access across Ealing and Hillingdon. Having fought for Greenford and Hanwell stations to become step-free, he is campaigning for Northolt and North Acton stations to receive lifts, to better connect West London for those with mobility challenges.

Bassam Mahfouz, London Assembly Member for Ealing and Hillingdon, said:

“Making our tube network step free opens up our great city to thousands who are otherwise limited to expensive options. This announcement means an additional five stations across Ealing and Hillingdon earmarked for major accessibility improvements. Wheelchair users, those with limited mobility, parents with young children and older people will be amongst those this will make a massive impact for.

“While there is still work to be done, I am proud that since 2016, the number of step-free stations across London has increased by 20 per cent, meaning there are now more than 200 on TfL's network. I want to see half of all stations become step-free by the end of the decade.

“I’ll continue to make sure TfL do everything they can to make step-free access a reality across our area.”
