Will new fireworks event supplier provide bang for buck?

The New Year’s Eve (NYE) fireworks is a long-established event in London, dating back to 1999, when the first major NYE fireworks in London were organised to celebrate the millennium.[1] The Greater London Authority (GLA) has organised the event annually since 2003.

The GLA recently undertook a tender process to appoint a new Single Supplier for event management of the NYE events for 2026-2029. In May 2026, the GLA announced that it had awarded the contract, valued at £35 million excluding VAT, to Heart Productions Limited.[2]

The contract is for a period of four years, with optional annual call-offs.[3] The 2026 event will be the first NYE event which is managed by Heart Productions Ltd.

Tomorrow, the GLA Oversight Committee will meet to scrutinise the preparations for this year’s New Year’s Eve fireworks event, including lessons learned from last year, how the new supplier will manage the event, and plans to reduce counterfeit tickets and ensure effective crowd management.

The Committee will also question the Deputy Mayor for Communities and Social Justice on the Mayor’s new Action Plan for Deaf and Disabled Londoners.

Guests include:

Mayor’s new Action Plan for Deaf and Disabled Londoners (10am – 11am):

  • Dr Debbie Weekes-Bernard, Deputy Mayor for Communities and Social Justice
  • Alice Wilcock, Assistant Director for Young Londoners and Communities, GLA
  • Tom Rahilly, Assistant Director for Social and Economic Inclusion, GLA

New Year’s Eve fireworks (11am – 12pm):

  • Nicole Valentinuzzi, Director of External Relations, GLA
  • Lucy Waller, Deputy Director of Events and Host City Programmes, GLA
  • David Holley, Head of Events for London, GL

The meeting will take place in the Chamber at City Hall on Tuesday 13 October 2026 at 10am.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
