London Assembly Annual Report 2025-26

The London Assembly has today published its Annual Report for 2025-26, the 25th Anniversary year of the Assembly.  It details how the Assembly Members have championed the issues that matter most to Londoners.

During 2025-26, the Assembly and its Committees carried out over 27 investigations across 107 committee meetings, with 15 site visits. At these meetings, Assembly Members heard directly from 532 guests, published 24 reports and 68 letters, and put forward 302 recommendations to the Mayor, Government and other relevant public bodies.  

Throughout the year, the Assembly focused on key issues affecting Londoners, including public health, housing, policing, transport and London's future governance as part of wider devolution reforms.  

Key highlights in the report include: 

• The Police and Crime Committee worked to scrutinise policing reform and public confidence in the Metropolitan Police Service by investigating the experiences of young Londoners with neighbourhood policing and examined hate crime and violence against women and girls on London's public transport network.
• The Health Committee responded to the measles outbreak in north London by holding an extraordinary meeting with representatives from the NHS, UK Health Security Agency, the GLA and Enfield Council. It used the session to promote vaccination uptake, calling for better-targeted engagement with communities and improved data sharing between organisations.
• The Housing Committee investigated affordable housing delivery by examining progress under the Mayor's Affordable Homes Programme and highlighted ongoing challenges, including the shortage of family-sized and accessible homes.
• The Economy, Culture and Skills Committee responded to rising concern about the number of families leaving London, highlighted problems with school closures and set out steps for the Mayor to make London a more child-friendly city.
• The GLA Oversight Committee reviewed London's place within the Government's devolution reforms, examining how further devolution could strengthen London's ability to deliver for residents and publishing recommendations on the capital's future powers and governance arrangements.
