Response to Time for Action PDF Response to Time for Action RTF

Our response says that the Mayor must carefully target his proposals if he wishes to succeed in tackling youth violence in the capital. It calls for greater clarity of the Mayor's role and a deeper understanding of work already taking place with children and young people across London.

The Assembly is concerned that the Mayor’s efforts should add value to this complex area and not duplicate existing work. It calls for GLA resources to be focused on what happens ‘outside the school gate’ to ensure that young Londoners can travel safely around the capital.

The Assembly's response broadly welcomes the Mayor's aim of extra targeted support for children in care through the use of mentors. However it highlights the need for the scheme to be tailored to the needs of individual children and the dangers of relying on an unpredictable charitable funding stream. It also calls for assurances that funding for these projects will not be found at the expense of existing effective work with children and young people.
