Our Health and Environment Committee has written to the Mayor, Department for Energy and Climate Change and energy companies following a meeting on 8 November 2012 about fuel poverty and domestic energy efficiency retrofit.

The Committee welcomes plans for RE:NEW to continue beyond 2013 and to act as a simple contact point for householders. It asks the Mayor for more details about how this will work in practice and how it will be resourced.

In the letters to DECC and the energy companies, the Committee highlights the very disappointing level of investment that has been delivered so far by the CERT and CESP schemes to London, as compared to other regions in proportion to the size and type of London’s housing stock. Committee Members ask for annual figures to date for loft and cavity wall insulation installations under both schemes.

The Committee also asks DECC about lessons learned from CERT and CESP for the Green Deal and ECO, and in particular, for achieving better take-up and delivery in London. Finally, Members asks what action would be taken if monitoring shows that London is again receiving less than its fair share of investment compared to other regions.
