On 22 September 2021, the London Assembly Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning Committee held a meeting to discuss building safety and inclusion in the London Fire Brigade (LFB).
Following reports that a “culture of casual racism and misogyny remains prevalent within pockets of the LFB”, London Fire Commissioner Andy Roe was asked about building a brigade that truly represents the capital’s communities.
Members also asked for an update on the progress of actions taken by the Mayor in respect of cladding and building safety.
Susan Hall AM, Chairman of the Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning Committee, has today written to the London Fire Commissioner with a series of recommendations.
These include reporting on diversity targets and recording data for LGBTQ+ staff and disabled staff at the same level of detail as other minority staff.
The Chairman has also written to the Mayor with recommendations on building safety in London.
