Assembly respond to Skills and Employment Strategy for London review

Key information

Publication type: General

Publication date:

The committee's response to the London Skills and Employment Board's consultation on its first annual review of the Skills and Employment Strategy for London makes the following key points:

  • The committee supports the board's focus on tackling long-term worklessness, but believes the board has not done enough to show how it is responding to the new challenges of the recession;
  • During the recession, services need to respond to make sure appropriate support is available to those people who may already have skills and employment experience and live in areas where historically demand has been lower, but now need employment and skills advice; and
  • During current upheavals - the abolition of the Learning & Skills Council and changing role of the LDA - the Board needs to set out clearly how it will work with and coordinate the various organisations that commission skills services.
