Will ageing Londoners have somewhere to live with dignity?
More than 1.05 million Londoners are aged 65 and over, while the number aged 80 and over is projected to increase by around 336,000 by 2050.1 Most older people continue to live in mainstream housing, yet much of London's housing stock was not designed with later life in mind.
Tomorrow, the London Assembly Housing Committee will examine whether London's homes are ready for an ageing population.
The Committee will hear evidence on how well existing housing meets older people's needs, the challenges of adapting homes to support independent living, and whether enough specialist housing is being provided to these groups.
The guests include:
Panel 1: 10:00 – 11:30
- Natalie Turner, Deputy Director for Homes and Communities, Centre for Ageing Better
- Martina Kane, Head of Policy and Research, Independent Age
- Professor Julienne Meyer CBE, Professor Emerita of Nursing: Care for Older People, City, University of London; former Chair of the Older People’s Housing Taskforce
Panel 2: 11:30 – 12:45
