Scrutinising the Draft London Plan
The London Assembly has a key role to play in various stages of the Draft London Plan.
It scrutinises the Mayor’s plans, representing the voices of Londoners, and ultimately voting whether to accept the Plan before it is formally adopted.
The Mayor published the Draft London Plan on 16 July 2026.1 Consultation is now open on the Draft Plan for a period of 13 weeks, closing on 15 October.2 The Mayor describes the key priorities of the Draft Plan as “unlocking affordable housing, delivering good growth and supporting the industries that will be crucial to London’s future economic success”.3
The Draft Plan is roughly half the length of the previous London Plan 2021. It focuses on four ‘Good Growth Objectives’, rather than the previous six. These are:
- Making the best use of land
- Delivering the homes and neighbourhoods Londoners need
- Growing London’s economy in a way that benefits all
- Creating a greener, resilient and healthy city.4
At an All-Assembly meeting tomorrow, Members will ask questions about the Draft London Plan. The guests are:
- Jules Pipe CBE, Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and the Fire Service
- Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development
Following the Q&A, Assembly Members will debate these motions.
The meeting will take place on Thursday 10 September 2026 from 10am in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
