London Assembly kicks off new term by appointing new Chairs

Elected members of the London Assembly 2022
Created on
04 May 2023

In its first meeting of the new Assembly year, the London Assembly has today elected a new Chair and Deputy Chair for the year ahead.

The new Chair of the London Assembly is confirmed as Andrew Boff AM and the new Deputy Chair is Dr Onkar Sahota AM.

Andrew Boff AM, new Chair of the London Assembly, said:

“I am delighted to be elected to chair the London Assembly for the year ahead and would like to thank Dr Onkar Sahota AM for his work as chair over the past year.

“We expect the year ahead to be busy for everyone in City Hall as we approach the 2024 London elections.

“Over the coming year, the London Assembly will investigate and scrutinise the biggest issues that affect Londoners, including the cost of living, reforming the Met Police, addressing the ongoing housing crisis, and ensuring we have an effective transport system that works for everyone.

“I also want to make sure the voices of young Londoners are heard in the London Assembly, so that our work is informed by their experiences and the issues that affect them. This will be my priority for the year ahead.

“The London Assembly is elected by you, to look out for you. We will continue to hold the Mayor to account on issues that matter most to Londoners and make sure your voice is heard in City Hall.”

The Assembly also agreed the Membership and Chairs of its Committees, to lead investigations into issues ranging from public transport to the Mayor’s budget. The meeting can be watched back here.
