How are officers handling significant changes within the Met?
The Met Police is undergoing significant change, from continued efforts to change the toxic workplace culture highlighted in the Casey Review, to ‘tough choices’ leading to cuts across the Met – but how are the officers responding to this change?
In 2023, the Baroness Casey review found the Met to be institutionally racist, misogynistic and homophobic. In response, the Met published ‘A New Met for London’.
And in 2024, facing a significant funding gap, the Met announced a number of ‘tough choices’ including workforce reductions and the closure of a number of police front counters in London.
The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will meet tomorrow to hold a Q&A with the Metropolitan Police Federation to hear how its officers are dealing with the changes implemented, whilst continuing to serve and protect Londoners.
Prior to this, the Committee will speak with His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Probation about the government’s early prison release scheme, following a Q&A with the Met on this topic in October.
Guests include:
Part one – 10:00am – 11:00am:
- Martin Jones CBE, His Majesty’s (HM) Chief Inspector of Probation, HM Inspectorate of Probation
Part two – 11:00am – 1:00pm:
- Paula Dodds, Chair, Metropolitan Police Federation
- Matt Cane, General Secretary, Metropolitan Police Federation
The meeting will take place in the Chamber at City Hall on Wednesday 4 November 2026 at 10am.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
