Independent review of Prevent

Police and Crime CommitteeThe Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 10am

Prevent is one of the four key themes of the government’s counter-terrorism strategy. It aims to safeguard people from radicalisation and prevent people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.

An independent review of Prevent by William Shawcross has found that the government’s Prevent programme is not doing enough to tackle “non-violent Islamist extremism” and made 34 recommendations for reform.

The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will meet to discuss the review of Prevent and what the Metropolitan Police and Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is doing in response.

  • Commander Dom Murphy, Metropolitan Police Service (MPS)
  • Kenny Bowie, Director of Strategy and MPS Oversight, MOPAC
  • Detective Superintendent Jane Corrigan, Head of SO15 Local Operations and Prevent lead, MPS
