Prison leavers accessing employment

Economy, Culture and Skills Committee – The Chamber, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, 10am

In 2023-24, 17.1 per cent of ex-offenders in London were employed six weeks after release from custody, rising to 27.9 per cent after six months. This is lower than the national average, with 19.3 per cent of ex-offenders nationally employed after six weeks, rising to 31.1 per cent after six months.

The Economy, Culture and Skills Committee will speak with organisations about the challenges and opportunities of hiring ex-offenders, and whether the current training provided in prisons is adequate.

The Met’s neighbourhood policing

As of 1 May 2025, the Met’s Safer Schools Officer role was dissolved due to budgetary issues.

The Police and Crime Committee will meet to understand how the Met’s operation in schools may be affected by cuts to Safer Schools Officers, and how the Met’s ‘child first approach’ is manifesting in its neighbourhood work.
