In response to the announcement that the Commissioner of Transport for London, Andy Byford, has resigned, Siân Berry AM, Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee, said:
"Despite suggestions that this was a planned departure, we are surprised and shocked at this announcement.
"Andy has been in the role since 2020 -- which is not a long time, but he has seen TfL through a difficult period when the pressure was intense.
"We can only imagine the difficulties he experienced in guiding TfL through the pandemic and resulting government funding negotiations -- so we wish him all the best in his new ventures.
"Our main concern now, is that this unexpected change will not derail the recovery of London's public transport network."
