Following the announcement today by the Mayor of London on plans for more buses in outer London, Sian Berry AM, Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee, said:
“I am pleased to see that the Mayor has committed to the provision of additional bus services in outer London, making it easier for people looking for a more sustainable form of travel.
“Londoners and visitors will benefit from more frequent buses on existing routes, as well as the expansion of these routes and creation of new ones.
“This was a key conclusion from our committee’s response to the ULEZ expansion consultation, so it is good to see this progressing. However, we wanted improvements to go further and would like to see many more announcements like this made soon by the Mayor, in particular for improved public transport accessibility to help disabled Londoners, and more support for electric car charging and car clubs.
“The majority of these changes are not due to come into effect until 2024, and we need alternative options in place to coincide with the ULEZ expansion.
“A key priority for the ULEZ expansion is to offer increased options for public transport. We welcome this announcement, but the Mayor must ensure the plans can be brought forward as quickly as possible.”
