Dear Sadiq,

I recognise that in your time in office you have made the link between environmental justice and social justice, and sought to champion human rights to a clean environment.

Last week the London Assembly unanimously passed a motion in support of Zane’s Law. The motion asked you to support the measures Zane’s law proposes that would ensure greater action and transparency on contaminated land. I and other members of the Assembly met with Kye, Zane’s father after the plenary, and he asked that I ensure you see some words from him on the purpose of this proposal.

The main objective of Zane’s Law’s is to protect people, by understanding what happened to Zane, the suffering of others from adverse and life-threatening health impacts experienced daily by communities across the country, and the projections of worse to come as climate and environmental risks increase.

We are suffering from the impacts of industrialisation, climatic change and waste etc, we call for due diligence, accountability, and transparency, to enable the Government to discharge its first duty of public protection, whilst enhancing social value.

I hope that this helps in your consideration of the Assembly’s motion, and I am happy to help put you in touch with Kye if you would like to discuss more directly with him.

Yours sincerely,

Zack Polanski

Green Party Member of the London Assembly
