Biography

James was elected to represent West Central in May 2024. James was born in the constituency and has lived there his entire life. Prior to the Assembly, James worked at a foodbank in his constituency and in parliament. He was elected to represent Bayswater on Westminster City Council in May 2022.

Locally, James has provided funding to local youth clubs, supported clean air initiatives and helped deliver free school meals to all children aged 3-14. James is the Labour lead for planning and regeneration and has chaired the London Assembly’s Planning and Regeneration Committee since May 2025. In this position, he advocates for increases in the amount of social and truly affordable homes being built to tackle London’s housing crisis.

Outside of politics, James is an Army Reserve officer and a Governor of Miles Coverdale Primary School in Shepherd’s Bush.
