Following preliminary reporting that Chancellor Rachel Reeves will approve expansions of Heathrow, Luton, and Gatwick Airports, Green Party London Assembly Member Zack Polanski issued the following statement calling into question London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan’s repeated failure to stand by his opposition to airport expansion: [1]
“For years, Sadiq Khan has been saying that the ANPS (airport national policy statement) should be suspended to stop Heathrow Expansion. Now, magically once we had a Labour government in place, he has refused to take any action to back up his words.
“Now, we know why. Government has always been planning to expand Heathrow, and our Mayor, our ‘greenest Mayor ever,’ is clearly content to let them do it.
“Despite all his protestations, he is going to stand aside during this climate vandalism. Any credibility he has on the environment will be in tatters. Sadiq Khan, where’s your backbone on airport expansion?"
