Sian Berry responds to Mayor’s announcement to expand the ULEZ scrappage scheme
Responding to the Mayor of London’s announcement on expanding the ULEZ scrappage scheme, Green Party London Assembly Member, Siân Berry said:
“The Londonwide clean air zone will save lives, it is as simple as that, so I am pleased that the scheme will go ahead without delay and with an enhanced scrappage package.
“I have worked in the Assembly to make sure there was enough support for Londoners who needed a car to replace them, and for claiming cash to take up active travel and public transport instead of car ownership. The basic car scrappage scheme, which offers cash alongside free bus and tram travel as an alternative to buying a new car is now expanded so anyone with a non-compliant car can take it up and I strongly encourage more Londoners to consider taking up this new offer.
“However, the Mayor could have also improved the value of this incentive and increased the funding available for public transport and active travel access, so I am disappointed that he did not do this today.”
