Caroline Russell wins toilet funding for London transport: “a huge relief for Londoners”
After years of campaigning, Caroline Russell AM, Leader of the City Hall Green Group, released the below statement following the successful allocation of £3 million for public toilets on the Transport for London (TfL) network in the Mayor’s budget announced today:
"Public toilets aren’t just a matter of convenience – for many Londoners, knowing there are clean, safe, and accessible toilets on the Tube can be the difference between saying yes to the event, going to the shops, or simply visiting friends.
“I am thrilled to see the Mayor recognise the hard work of the many campaigners, advocates, and community members involved in getting us to this point, as this will undoubtedly be a huge relief for Londoners.
“Three million is still far short of the 20 million pounds the City Hall Greens have requested for the past three budget cycles, but I am hopeful this is the first allocation among many to come.
“I will continue to press the Mayor for more funding until every tube stop has a safe, clean, and operable public toilet - Londoners deserve to travel across our city in dignity.”
