FOI - ULEZ revenue and roadworks [Jun 2024]

Key information

Request reference number: MGLA150524-3284

Date of response:

Summary of request

Your request
  1. How much additional capital has been generated since / due to the implementation of the ULEZ expansion last year?
  2. Can you please confirm when this capital will be available to fix the roads which are in a horrendous state of disrepair in the area of Heston West. Especially the Brabazon Road Estate (Armatage Road in particular)
Our response

Please see below the information the GLA holds within scope of your request. Some of this information is publicly available. Where this is the case I have included links to the information.

Transport for London (TfL) has recently responded to a similar request about income since the ULEZ expanded on 29 August 2023. You can read the response on the TfL website: FOI request detail - Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk)

TfL publishes details of income from all road user charging schemes, including the ULEZ, in its Annual Report and Statement of Accounts, which is available on the TfL website at: Annual Report - Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk)

Any net revenue raised by the ULEZ must be reinvested into running and improving London’s transport network. In line with the Mayor’s Transport Strategy, any net revenue will support selected elements of walking and cycling, road safety, environment, bus (including customer information) and rail programmes. More detail is available in the ‘LEZ schemes four year programme March 2023’ note available on the TfL website: Ultra Low Emission Zone - Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk)

It is worth noting that TfL only manages five per cent of London’s roads – the so called “red routes”. The London boroughs are responsible for maintenance of the other 95 per cent of roads in London and issues should be raised with the responsible borough.

The GLA does not hold any further information in scope of your request. TfL is the Mayor's transport authority and is responsible for implementing the Mayor's Transport Strategy, and for the day-to-day operational running of transport services, including road user charging schemes such as the ULEZ. You may wish to send a further request to TfL at [email protected].
