Summary of request

Your request

I came across this email address on the following website: 2013 London Town Centre Health Check - Barnet Data

I am seeking borough wise town centre and high street footfall data.

I would be very grateful if you could help me or signpost me to the correct department for requesting the same.

Our response

The GLA does hold some data in scope of your request. Data that we are licenced to share openly about Town Centres can be found here London Town Centre Health Check Analysis Report - London Datastore, and is due to be updated for 2024.

The GLA also purchases anonymised and aggregated data from BT and Mastercard. It is primarily to inform local High Street recovery see:

However, this information is exempt from disclosure under section 43(2) of the FOIA (Commercial Interest). BT and Mastercard’s data is provided to the GLA under a commercial licence. This is a commercial data set so cannot be provided in this manner and for use outside of GLA’s strategic practices for which the data is purchased. Access to these data can be obtained directly via:

Section 43(2) constitutes a qualified exemption from our duty to disclose information under the FOIA and consideration must be given as to whether the public interest favours disclosure of the information covered by this exemption, outweighs the public interest considerations in favouring maintaining the exemption and withholding the information. In this instance we regard it not to be in the public interest to release information that would be detrimental to commercial activities, specifically where the information is a commercially available product sold by a third party.
