Summary of request

Your request

To what extent has the night time economy of London recovered from the pandemic?

If there is any available public data, could you share any data related to the recovery of the night time economy in London?

For example, the transition of number of visitors to the night town, the amount of spending, the number of active bars and night clubs.

Our response

We do not currently publish regular data on the economy at night, or specifically on the recovery of those industries that are sometimes categorised as ‘night time economy’ (hospitality, culture, etc).

We are planning to update the London At Night Evidence Base in the coming year.

The original evidence base is here.

We published data on night workers in February 2023.

The London Pubs Audit was updated in January 2023.

The data on openings and closures is due to be published shortly.

CGA provide market updates on the hospitality sector including a free market monitor that includes some London figures. However, we do not verify this data so we cannot comment on its accuracy.

The Office of National Statistics have also recently produced some useful data on the topic of your request.

If you have any further questions relating to this matter, please contact us, quoting
