Summary of request
Your request
I wish to see a full copy of the report provided to the Mayor of London by the Metropolitan Police Service regarding the policing of the Sarah Everard vigil that took
place on Clapham Common on 13 March 2021.
Our response
Please find attached the information we hold within the scope of your request.
We have redacted a small amount of personal data, which is exempt under Section 40(2) of the Act.
We have also redacted some information about operational policing under Section 31(1)(a) of the Act (Law Enforcement- the prevention or detection of crime) which provides that:
31.— (1) Information which is not exempt information by virtue of section 30 is exempt
information if its disclosure under this Act would, or would be likely to, prejudice - (a) the
prevention or detection of crime.
The information relates to the policing resources deployed on 13 March 2021. The release of this information would give insight into operational policing tactics and capability at similar events, which would enable those with the time, capacity and inclination to try and map strategies used by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS). Release would have the effect of compromising law enforcement tactics and would also hinder the prevention and detection of crime.
Whilst there is a public interest in the transparency of policing functions, there is a stronger
public interest in safeguarding the integrity of the MPS.
If you have any further questions relating to this matter, please contact me, quoting the
reference MGLA300321-9596.
