FOI - Met Police access to road camera systems [Jul 2024]

Key information

Request reference number: MGLA020724-6691

Date of response:

Summary of request

Request:

I would like to find out if the MET Police have access to the LEZ/ULEZ ANPR camera system, if not why not.

Response:

This information is publicly available.

The Mayor has authorised Transport for London (TfL) to grant the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) access to data feeds from its ANPR enforcement camera network provided that the MPS justifies this as proportionate and necessary based on privacy and equalities impact assessments. The most recent Mayoral Decision covering the provision of this data to the MPS is available on the GLA website.

TfL publishes information about the camera sharing arrangements with the MPS within its Road User Charging privacy notice (See ‘Police access to ANPR cameras’). All the Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) relating to the Inner London expansion of ULEZ as well as the London-wide expansion of the zone are also published within the privacy notice page. These include references to camera sharing with the MPS.

I would encourage you to contact TfL directly if you require additional information on this topic.
