I would like to know how much the new bronze statue in Trafalgar Square has cost please. Also, who owns it?
Our response
The GLA contributed £200,000 towards the production of the artwork. However, we do not hold information regarding the total cost of the commission. The project also received support from Arts Council England and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
The artwork has been acquired for inclusion in a prominent Norwegian collection. However, until the sale is formally completed, ownership remains with the artist.
Should the sale proceed, the GLA's contribution towards production costs will be recouped. This arrangement is consistent with the standard funding and financial model applied to Fourth Plinth commissions. The approach adopted in this instance reflects established practice and does not represent a bespoke, exceptional, or preferential arrangement.
