Summary of request
Can I have some more detail please :-
The £23k for scaffolding seems very high - can I have more detail / breakdown on this cost please.
Who made the £200k contribution? Why is that a cost? What was that money used for ?
£30k commission to artist. Or, was this the materials to make the thing?
Our response
- This amount is the cost to supply, erect, conduct safety checks and dismantle access scaffold to 4th Plinth to facilitate installation of new sculpture, including out of hours work.
- The Greater London Authority commits up to £200,000 to the production and the installation of the Fourth Plinth sculptures. For this sculpture the production process comprised:
- Technical designs
- Structural engineering
- Independent engineering review
- Materials (Steel frame, painted and patinated bronze, reinforced glass)
- Sculpting, moulding, casting and finishing the bronze sculpture.
- Packing and transporting the sculpture to site
- Installation of the sculpture on Trafalgar Square
- The £30,000 is the Artist Fee for the project, it goes direct to the artist and is not repayable. It is an industry standard that artists are paid a fee for commissioned work and covers a period of approximately two years.
