Please see our answers to each of your questions in turn below:

1.    Do you have a strategy for AI and if so, can you please send me a copy?

The GLA has published an Emerging Technology Charter for London, promoting responsible innovation. It emphasises transparency, user design, trust framework and sustainability.

2.    Do you have an AI policy, and if so, can you share it?

We do not have an AI policy but we have internal guidance about the use of AI on our intranet if staff are considering this as part of their work. 

Additionally, we have contributed to guidance produced by the London Office of Technology and Innovation (LOTI)

3.    Do you have any other written reports into AI and if so, could you please share them?

4. Have you invested in any third party companies to help you deliver AI?

No.

5.    What external investment have you made into AI?

The London Co-Investment Fund (LCIF) is an investment fund investing in technology-based startups in London alongside other venture capital fund managers. 

Of a total live portfolio of 79 companies, 16 are in the field of large data analytics, machine learning, image recognition and automation. 

AI is used in a number of these applications for healthcare and diagnostics, finance and business services. However, none of these companies are developing Generative AI solutions (as akin to ChatGPT).

6.    What internal investment have you made into AI?

In 2019 we temporarily trialled a chatbot on our London.gov website, provided by Intercom.

7.    Do you use AI for decision making?

No.

8.    If yes, how? Which areas of the organisation?

Not applicable. 

9.    Do you use AI in the execution of any political decisions or political governance?

No.

10.    Do you use AI for any other governance?

No.

14.    Do you use AI for website content?

Not currently. We trialled a chatbot on our website in 2019 (please see our answer to Question 6 above).

15.    Do you use AI for Press releases?

No.

16.    Do you use AI for paid digital ads?

No.

17.    Do you use AI for Communications Strategy?

No.

18.    Do you use AI to create policy documents in any part of the organisation and if so, where?

22.    Do you use AI for cyber security?

No. The GLA does not directly use AI within its cyber security activities and functions. However, we do use a number of managed services who for security reasons do not disclose how they identify and detect threats and emerging patterns.

23.    Do you use AI for managing public records?

No.

24.    Do you use AI for processing forms?

No.

25.    Are there any other ways you use AI that are not listed above?

Some of our more advanced data modelling is starting to use aspects of AI in estimation, for example the Building Stock model.

26.    Do you have any formal plans to introduce AI into the organisation?

No.

27.    If you do plan to introduce, can you share with me those plans/timeline?
