Summary of request
You requested:
1. How many electric vehicle charging points have been installed in the local authority to date?
2. How many electric vehicle charging points does the authority plan to install in the next 12 months?
3. How much does the council plan to spend on installing electric vehicle charging points in
2022/2023 (as GBP and as a percentage of overall budget)?
Our response is as follows:
As the Greater London Authority is not a local authority, but a regional strategic authority, we do not install electric vehicle charging points directly. Instead, we provide support to both Transport for London (TfL) and the London boroughs to roll out electric vehicles charging points. This includes helping secure funding from Government. So far the GLA has helped secure £10 million for rapid charge points and £13 million as part of the Go Ultra Low Cities (GULCS) programme. As a result of this support, London now has over 10,000 charge points, a third of the UK total. This includes over 300 rapid charge points installed directly by TfL.
In addition, the GLA has provided TfL with £1.5 million as a contribution towards TfL’s revenue costs in connection with the first round of delivery of the new Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Delivery programme. This programme supports the roll out of electric vehicle charge points across London, and is a key pillar of the Mayor’s Electric Vehicle Infratructure Strategy. The sites being built as part of this first round of funding are expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
