Key information

Request reference number: MGLA110423-4681

Date of response:

Summary of request

Your request

When cross referenced, how many of the 282,520 Londoners claiming disability benefit are also part of the 247,000 that have a current valid Blue Badge?

Our response

The GLA does not hold this information. However, as noted in our previous correspondence, under the disability benefits grace periods criteria, anyone who is automatically eligible for a Blue Badge is eligible to apply for this grace period.

Furthermore, Transport for London (TfL) has also extended eligibility for the grace period to include people who do not receive benefits but have a terminal illness, are registered blind or severely sight impaired, or have children under three with a medical condition that means they need bulky equipment and/or need to be near a vehicle.

All wheelchair accessible vehicles are also eligible for a grace period until October 2027.

As the Mayor's transport authority, TfL is responsible for the policy development,
implementation and ongoing operation of road user charging schemes such as the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), as well as accompanying mitigations such as the scrappage scheme and grace periods.

You may wish to send a further request to TfL at [email protected]
