Our response
It is important to note that the information we hold is provided on a voluntary basis by GLA staff declaring information about faith on the ‘sensitive information’ screen of the GLA’s HR System. Staff are free to input this information or not. This means we do not hold information for all current staff; only current staff who have volunteered this personal data.
The only choice is ‘Muslim’. We do not break this down any further, so we don’t hold information as to Sunni, Shia or Ahmadiyya or British Muslim.
We can provide a breakdown showing where people declared both female and Muslim.
Therefore, we can provide information on how many current employees have voluntarily declared a faith.
From the information published in our most recent Workforce Report to 31 March 2022:
78 members of staff declared their faith as Muslim.
41 members of staff have identified as female and declared their faith as Muslim.
You may be interested in the GLA’s published workforce reports. In the most recent Workforce Report 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022 (page 32) you can see the declared faith of GLA staff expressed as a percentage. Again, based on voluntary information (12% “not known”).
