Summary of request
Your request:
What is your total annual capital investment in building, modernisation and
improvements to council-owned premises?
What proportion of the investment is related to energy efficiency?
What is the total number of property assets owned and managed by the council that
have been registered under the BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method)?
The Scoring and Rating of these BREEAM assessed buildings.
Our response:
Most of the assets owned and managed by the GLA are vacant land plots held for
development which is usually undertaken by external organisations in partnership with
the GLA. The only exception is the Crystal Building in the Royal Docks, where the GLA is
investing £14m to convert it to the new City Hall.
Approximately £3m of the investment in The Crystal is earmarked for energy efficiency.
Due to the nature of the development agreements in place with those organisations and
developers that develop GLA land, the GLA does not ordinarily own any assets that are
registered under BREEAM. However, the GLA did inherit The Crystal Building which
does have a BREEAM rating of Outstanding.
