FOI - Congestion Charge and US Embassy [Aug 2024]

Key information

Request reference number: MGLA300724-8319

Date of response:

Summary of request

Your request

I am writing to request all correspondence between the Mayor's office and the Embassy of the United States of America - specifically regarding the Embassy's refusal to pay the congestion charge. The Embassy has an outstanding debt since 2003 of more than £14.6m in unpaid congestion charges.

Please could you disclose all written correspondence - in the form of letters or emails - relating to the issue since the current Mayor's election in 2016? If it would be too onerous to search back that far, I am happy to accept correspondence only going back as far as the cost limits of the FOI Act would allow.

Similarly, if it would be too time-consuming to search specifically for correspondence relating to the Embassy's failure to pay the congestion charge, I would be content to receive all correspondence on any subject matter exchanged between the Embassy and the office of the current Mayor, Sadiq Khan.

Our response

The GLA does not hold the information within scope of your request. Transport for London (TfL) is the Mayor's transport authority and is responsible for implementing the Mayor's Transport Strategy, and for the day-to-day operational running of transport services. You may wish to send a further request to TfL at [email protected]
