FOI - Affordable housing [May 2024]

Summary of request

Request:

I see various reports and nonsense arguing by those in power about statistics. I would like to see figures regarding homes for Social Rent that have been built during this Mayor's tenure. How many? Not London affordable or London Living, or any other smoke and mirrors schemes to put people in above their heads to lick Corporate greed .

How many built for SOCIAL RENT? Affordable means something and nothing. An umbrella term under which poor people are excluded from decent homes, being seen as not viable.

The last Mayoral ticket before the non- vote COVID one was on housing and percentages of S. Housing with Corporate builders. I believe these were watered down to exclude more Social Housing. This was passed by the Mayor. Result more housing need. After 2 terms how come we are a 3rd world city now. Do we build shanty towns, to go with tent cities to make the rich richer and the poor homeless? Plus why are people paying high rent for substandard property.? Is the Mayor a Tory in disguise? He is MAYOR for all, not just a few in London.

Our response to your request is as follows:

The Affordable Housing programmes are governed by criteria set out by central government and the Mayor is required to follow those funding and programme requirements. For Affordable housing programmes, the government has set parameters on the tenure priorities and the GLA has following those programme requirements. The GLA Affordable Housing statistics sets out the homes delivered through funding programmes overseen by the Mayor, these statistics are available at the following link Affordable Housing statistics | London City Hall
