Our response
Firstly, please note that the GLA is London's strategic government and does not operate in
the same way as local London Borough Councils.
You may wish to contact them separately.
In relation to part 1 of your request, we publish reports on Affordable Housing Starts and
Completions delivered through GLA Programmes. Overall in 2022-23, a total of 13,954
affordable homes were completed through GLA programmes and information about the
tenure of these homes is provided in the statistics.
The GLA statistics are for all homes and do not separate new build from other forms of additional housing supply.
The website also shows a separate listing of homes started and completed through GLA
programme for council homes delivery. The statistics show that in 2022-23 a total of 3,484
homes were completed (note, some of these homes are included in the overall GLA housing statistics).
Further details are available here.
For part 2 of your request, the GLA statistics for council homes delivery are for all council
partners inclusive of council-owned companies.
Of the total completions for 2022-23, the following are from non Local Authority delivery partners (via LA housing companies): 30 completions for London Affordable Rent, 31 for Social Rent and 3 for Shared Ownership.
The GLA statistics are for all homes and do not separate new build from other forms of
additional housing supply.
For part 3 and part 4 of your request, the GLA does not hold the information on the number
of homes councils are expecting to build in the next five years, however, this would be set out in council development plans that should be available from individual boroughs. You may wish to contact them separately or via the London Councils to obtain this information.
