Summary of request

Your request

Can you please provide or direct me to published data regarding:

  • Adult Education Budget (AEB) allocations and plans for allocating the 2021-22 AEB made by the Authority for contract year 2021-22, giving the name of the contractor and total amount of the allocation.
  • Does the Authority intend to launch a procurement event for the 2021-22 Budget? If not, why? Can you provide details of all meetings that have taken place to arrive at the decision and the rationale for the decision?
  • Can the Authority provide details of all funding streams it manages in the London area? This includes, but is not limited to, AEB, apprenticeships, European Social Fund, Department for Work and Pensions and all other sources.

Our response

AEB allocations for 2021-22 are published on the GLA website.

The GLA completed an open and competitive grant award process for the AEB in February 2021. This was open to all UK registered learning providers located in London and the London ‘fringe’ to apply for funding.

Successful bidders were awarded funding for two years from the start of the 2021-22 academic year (August 2021). Historic details of this funding opportunity can be found on the GLA website.

If other funding streams become available to the Mayor in future years, then details will be
available on the GLA website and widely communicated amongst our stakeholders.

The Mayor’s Skills and Employment Unit delivers programmes across various funding streams, each of which are set out below:

Funding stream Budget Time period
European Social Fund £87 million (including external funding from local councils and the Careers and Enterprise Company) 2019 - 2023
Adult Education Budget Circa £330 million  Annually
Skills for Londoners Capital Fund  Circa £214 million 2015 - 2021

GLA core funding

(currently funds programmes including the Mayor’s Construction Academy, Mayoral Academies, Digital Talent Programme and No Wrong Door)

Circa £10 million (capital and revenue)

The Mayor’s budget is set annually and funding for Skills and Employment programmes varies each year.

Details regarding the Mayor’s budget, including the budget setting process and budgets for years 2021-22 and 2022-23 can be found here.
