Summary of request
You requested:
Are lorries and trucks, working on the Silvertown Tunnel infrastructure, exempt from the ULEZ arrangements and charges coming into effect on the 25th of October?
Are there vehicles of any nature exempt from the ULEZ, which otherwise would be
included in the ULEZ, due to building, development work sites within the ULEZ Zone?
Our response:
In March 2021 the standards for the London wide “Low Emission Zone” (LEZ) for lorries and trucks were tightened to align them with the ULEZ standards for smaller vehicles.
As a consequence, the ULEZ formally no longer applies to lorries and trucks. In this response I have therefore referred to the LEZ rather than the ULEZ as this is the applicable scheme for large and heavy vehicles. To be clear, the LEZ applies on nearly all the roads in London, including all roads in the areas around the Silvertown Tunnel construction sites. Detailed maps of the LEZ boundary can be found on the Transport for London (TfL) website.
There are no exemptions from the LEZ specifically for lorries and trucks working on the Silvertown Tunnel. All lorries and trucks working on Silvertown must meet Euro VI
standards as required by the Code of Construction Practice and associated
Environmental Management plans.
All of the available exemptions from the LEZ are listed on the TfL website. There are no additional or special exemptions for vehicles travelling to or from building
or development work sites.
