Our response

  1. The GLA is a strategic authority and as such does not have a tree-planting strategy. The Mayor’s London Environment Strategy (London Environment Strategy | London City Hall) includes targets relating to trees, and we are a co-ordinating partner in the London Urban Forest Partnership which has recently produced a new Action Plan (London Urban Forest Plan — 2025 Actions Update) to help protect, grow and promote London’s trees and woodlands.
  2. The GLA is a strategic authority and as such does not plant trees directly or have an annual target for tree planting. The Mayor’s London Environment Strategy includes targets relating to trees, including an increase of 10 per cent in canopy cover by 2050.
  3. As a strategic authority we do not have a tree-planting budget. We do however support councils (and other landowners) to deliver tree planting, and the Mayor has committed more than £4mill through the Trees for London programme since 2022.
  4. As a strategic authority we do not directly plant or contract tree planting. Most trees we have funded will be included in council’s planting numbers
  5. As a strategic authority we do not allocate land for planting
  6. As a strategic authority we do not directly plant or contract tree planting.
