Summary of request
Your request
Please tell me whether the council has undertaken any tree planting schemes as part of its work to tackle climate change and help reach net zero or improve air quality:
- when the tree planting scheme took place
- how many trees were planted
- how much the scheme cost
- how many trees are still surviving.
Our response
While the GLA does not directly implement tree planting schemes, the Mayor has funded a range of tree planting programmes since taking office in 2016. The details of these are below (including the name and timeframe of the programme, number of trees planted, and costs where available).
The GLA does not hold any information regarding survival rates.
Please find attached details of tree planting programmes from 2016-17 to 2020-21.
The Mayor also supports tree planting via Transport for London (TfL). Either directly, via TfL planting along the TfL Route Network (TLRN), or indirectly via TfL funding to boroughs for their Local Implementation Plans (LIP).
Further information on TfL tree planting and removal is available in these Mayor’s Questions.
For more information about the number of trees planted by TfL and the scheme costs, you should contact TfL’s information access team using [email protected]
Note that the total tree number in the attached table will not match other published totals for Mayoral tree planting, as the table does not include trees planted via TfL.
If you have any further questions relating to this matter, please contact us, quoting reference MGLA270922-0016.
