EIR - Rewilding and Food Growing [Jun 2024]

Key information

Request reference number: MGLA130624-5653

Date of response:

Summary of request

Request:

Please could you identify, state, how much money has been allocated since 2020 for

  1. rewilding projects e.g. from the Rewilding Fund, Grow Back Greener and Green Resilience funds

and

2) food growing projects from the above funds or other.

I have attempted to calculate this from

https://grantnav.threesixtygiving.org/org/GB-LAE-GLA#

but it does not seem possible.

I have also tried to work this out from the below links but again it is not possible

https://www.london.gov.uk/programmes-strategies/funding-and-innovation

Responses:

1 Rewilding Projects

The GLA does not hold information on the total amount of money allocated since 2020 for rewilding projects.

Rewilding can be a spectrum and defined differently, so several of our programmes include elements that might be considered rewilding. Others are explicitly about “rewilding”. Given this, and as you found when attempting to locate a total, the GLA is unable to provide a definitive figure.

Please see advice/assistance below.

2 Food Growing

The GLA does not hold information on the total amount of money allocated since 2020 for food growing projects. There are elements of food growing in some of our projects through community orchards, community gardens, but we don’t categorise them specifically.

We can confirm that The Healthy Place, Healthy Weight mission has contributed £35,000 since 2021 to the Capital Growth programme, London’s largest food growing network promoting and supporting urban food growing.

Advice/assistance

The Authority may refuse requests that would take a disproportionate amount of staff time, placing an unreasonable burden on the authority but we should be able to provide some information which is of interest.

As you saw, the GLA already publishes a lot of information about our programmes and funds.

Although we cannot provide a total overall for money allocated since 2020 on the overarching themes, you may wish to make requests for information about specific funds.

For example, the GLA would be able to release information if you were to ask about our specific Rewild London Fund and the Rewilding Programme delivering the recommendations of the Mayor’s Rewilding Taskforce (and associated funding).

If you would like to submit a new request, please write to [email protected]

If you have any further questions relating to this matter please contact me, quoting the reference MGLA130624-5653.
