Your request
Given real London's diversities, density variables, segregations, exclusions, growth and anti-growth rigid population zonings, what was the methodology that the GLA used to produce its pivotal and literally 'green spaces life or death' legally powerful All London Green Grid Supplementary Planning Document (in the London Plan 2021 policies this is known as the Green 'network')?
Our response
The All London Green Grid Supplementary Planning Guidance was published in March 2012.
We have also published more information on the background to the All London Green Grid (ALGG) and links to the Area Frameworks:
You ask about the 'methodology' used to produce the ALGG. The approach to producing the ALGG was based on that used for the East London Green Grid.
It was led by Design for London (then based at the London Development Agency) working with the GLA. They worked with partners including Natural England, the Environment Agency, GiGL (Greenspace information for Greater London), the London Parks and Green Spaces Forum (now Parks for London), Groundwork and Borough representatives on the vision, policy principles and strategic opportunities. A Project Board, Working Group and Green Grid Area Chairs structure was put in place.
They developed the strategy, collated and mapped the data, and worked with consultants producing the draft SPG. Borough workshops were held as part of the process to identify strategic projects and inform the development of the area frameworks.
