Summary of request
Your request
The Mayor of London last year commissioned the London Climate Resilience Review to make recommendations to guide London’s preparations for more extreme weather. The review, chaired by Emma Howard Boyd, is set to end in December.
Speaking in New York on Monday, Mr Khan said the review's “interim” independent climate resilience report warns that London could face summer temperatures of 45C.
Evidence submitted to the review closed on September 2.
The requested information:
- A copy of the full interim independent climate resilience report, or completed interim findings or briefings, that have been presented to the Mayor. For avoidance of doubt, I am seeking the completed interim material upon which the Mayor based his remarks.
- A list of those who have submitted evidence to the review. If the names of individuals cannot be included, please provide a list of the “organisations, businesses and communities” who submitted evidence.
- Any modelling or analysis attached to the completed interim report, findings or briefings referred to in 1) on the impact that increased temperatures could have on London.
Our response
The GLA does not hold “a copy of an interim independent climate resilience report, or completed interim findings or briefings, that have been presented to the Mayor”. The report is expected to conclude later this year and be presented to the Mayor at that stage. The points made by the Mayor reflected some of the emerging themes coming from stakeholder discussions with the review team.
We have therefore not received any modelling to date. However, commentary around increased heat risk reflects the fact that we are experiencing increases in heat beyond those in UK climate projections (the record-breaking temperatures of 40 degrees in 2022) and more aligned to a typical year in 2060.
Please see below a list of organisations who have submitted evidence to the review. Please note that the GLA has not seen the evidence as this is held by the Review team, not the GLA. In addition the Review has held a series of Roundtables with representatives of different sectors as part of their work.
