Summary of request
- Can the Mayor explain in detailed practical and observable activities the precise benefit London has gained from his attendance? Please avoid platitudes in your response and include references to crime reduction, better value for money for local services. If the business case for the trip can be supplied that will be of use.
- Can the Mayor explain how his carbon footprint is considered acceptable to Londoners considering what he has described as the climate emergency being the primary reason behind the ULEZ and its expansion and subsequent cost to Londoners? What are the detailed actions with associated evidence (press release etc) he has taken to personally mitigate this and what the timeframe for that mitigation is? What are the detailed and observable climate benefits he will have personally contributed to during the attendance?
- What London specific activity has he not been able to deliver during this time or has he continued to work remotely? Your response should reference things like crime statistics, service reduction etc, during this period.
- Can you confirm how much of the Mayor and the Mayor’s team cost has been covered out of London taxpayer contributions? What is the funding source of this trip? Is the Mayor on paid leave or taken leave of absence from his Mayoral role for this trip’s duration?
Our response
- The information you requested is already publicly available. You can access it here: Trip to Brazil (3) , Trip to Brazil (8) and Trip to Brazil (9).
- The Greater London Authority is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and there is an expectation that public transport is used wherever possible. The Authority calculates carbon emissions on business travel and pays the offsetting costs annually. As Co-Chair and co-host of the C40 World Mayors Summit, some carbon emissions for the Mayor’s attendance were unavoidable. C40 Cities has offset all flights that were taken to attend the Summit, using the industry leading climate offsetting organisation Cool Effect. Sustainability was prioritised and embedded in every aspect of the Summit’s planning and execution.
- When travelling the Mayor is in constant contact with colleagues in London and receives information and briefings on Mayoral business. The Mayor continues to carry out his duties while representing London at International events.
